Is West Boca part of the City of Boca Raton?
Mostly not, and it matters for your AC. West Boca is the large unincorporated area west of the city limits, roughly along US-441 (State Road 7) and the Turnpike, and it's governed by Palm Beach County even though the mailing address says Boca Raton. A full AC replacement there is permitted and inspected through the county's building division, not the city's. Your community association may also have its own rules on equipment placement and contractor access. None of this should slow you down if your contractor knows it: the permit is pulled before the job, the inspection is booked after, and the paperwork stays with your home records.
Why does my AC keep shutting off in the middle of summer?
In West Boca, the most common cause is a clogged condensate drain. In peak season an AC pulls gallons of water out of the air each day, and that warm, wet drain line is a perfect place for algae and sludge to grow. When it backs up, a safety float switch cuts power to the system to keep water off your ceiling or floor, so the AC simply stops. It can look like a major failure when it's really a plumbing problem. Flushing the line, treating it and checking the float switch fixes it, and doing that at each spring and fall visit keeps it from coming back on the hottest week of the year.
